Bruce Gordon, LCSW

Working with Chicago-Area Families Since 1997

Education & Experience
I moved to the Chicago area in 1980 to attend college at Northwestern University where I majored in Political Science and received a Bachelor’s degree in 1984. I continued to develop my interest in public service at the University of Chicago where I earned a Master’s Degree in Public Policy in 1988. After working for several years pursuing social change on a macro level, I shifted my attention to assisting individuals and families pursue change on a more personal level.

After receiving a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago in 1997, I subsequently began my post-graduate career as a social worker and continued to pursue my goal of becoming a therapist. I began this part of my career working in child welfare, received additional training and clinical supervision, and passed an examination earning my credential as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I spent the next ten years working in Chicago social service agencies primarily serving children and families. I worked as a psychotherapist for several years at an outpatient clinic (C.A.U.S.E.S), where I worked with clients in a variety of treatment settings including clinical work with individuals, couples, families, and groups. I subsequently spent several years working with the Jewish Children’s Bureau / Jewish Child and Family Services as a supervisor of therapists, where I further developed my clinical knowledge regarding best practices and innovations in social work practice.

I began to treat clients in my private practice in January 2008 and have established offices in the Chicago neighborhood of Lakeview and the suburb of Northfield. I continue to enjoy my work providing clinical services to individuals, couples, and families seeking positive change.

My current practice has allowed me to meet many fine people in the community – people who are seeking ways to improve their situation – people who consistently impress me with their dedication and their hard work – people who inspire me to work just as hard to meet their needs. I feel privileged to play a productive role in their lives.
